Healthcare in Colombia for Americans, Canadians and Europeans

Plan public and private healthcare, coverage, doctors, prescriptions and ongoing support in Colombia.

Ask a coordinator

Choose a pathway around your time in Colombia

A visitor needs appointment access, payment arrangements and a return-home plan. A resident or someone relocating needs continuity: a regular clinician, prescriptions, monitoring and coverage that fits the move. These decisions should be made around the city and your actual care needs.

The Colombia country hub includes Cali coordination. Ask for the proposed city, named provider and availability before booking. A country-level service description does not establish a clinical network in every city.

EPS enrollment and private options

Colombia’s health-system enrollment uses EPS entities through contributory or subsidized arrangements. The Ministry of Health provides current enrollment information. Ask the responsible EPS or authority which requirements apply to your immigration, residence and employment circumstances. Official health enrollment guidance.

For private appointments or additional coverage, confirm the provider, policy terms and patient payment. Do not assume that a private service is included in an EPS pathway or that a pending application means your coverage is already active.

Costs, insurance and U.S. benefits

Request a dated estimate in a stated currency for consultations, tests, treatment and follow-up. Confirm payment methods and whether a deposit or up-front payment is required. The State Department advises travelers to verify overseas coverage and payment arrangements. Official Colombia health and insurance information.

Original Medicare generally does not cover care abroad, subject to limited exceptions. Confirm any separate travel benefits with your own plan. Medicare foreign-travel guidance.

For longer stays, ask the insurer about residence, ongoing conditions, excluded services, authorization and medical evacuation. Keep evidence of active coverage available.

Finding doctors and maintaining care

For a planned procedure, use the Colombia medical tourism guide. For dental care, use dental implants in Colombia. Our provider-review methodology helps organize verification questions.

Retirees and families planning a move

Map routine appointments, transport, medication access and family support before choosing a long-term location. Ask who can help if the usual support person is unavailable. Have the treating clinician advise on travel and continuity for ongoing conditions.

Emergency healthcare in Colombia

For a medical emergency in Colombia, call 123. Do not wait for a website inquiry response. Official Colombia emergency information.

Keep your current location, emergency contact, allergies and insurance assistance details accessible. Ask about local care access as part of advance planning.

Request healthcare guidance in Colombia

Tell us your location and what you need help arranging. This is a non-emergency inquiry.

Submitting a request does not confirm an appointment, coverage or clinical eligibility.

Planning care from the United States, Canada or Europe?

These guides welcome Americans, Canadians and Europeans who are visiting, relocating or arranging care. Ask your home-country health plan or insurer to confirm overseas coverage for your destination, length of stay and planned care. U.S. Medicare information applies specifically to U.S. Medicare beneficiaries; coverage questions for Canadian and European residents should be checked with their own plan.
