How FMP generally works

A practical four-step path

According to the VA, FMP may cover medically necessary care received outside the United States for a VA-rated service-connected disability, certain associated conditions that aggravate it, or qualifying care connected to the Veteran Readiness and Employment program.

1

Review eligibility

Check your current FMP benefits letter and the conditions the VA identifies.

2

Choose a provider

The VA says Veterans may choose a licensed healthcare provider in the foreign country.

3

Document the care

Request an itemized statement with provider details, diagnoses, services and dates.

4

Submit the claim

The provider may file, or you may pay and submit your own claim with supporting records.
