Who are the grief programs for?

This workshop is intended for individuals who are going through a grieving process due to a significant loss.

What do we aim to achieve?

The grief programs aim to help participants acquire skills and strategies to adaptively cope with and work through the grieving process caused by the loss of a loved one. To achieve this goal, each participant is encouraged to:

  1. Accept the reality of the death or loss of their loved one
  2. Process the thoughts, emotions, sensations, and behaviors that have emerged as a result of the loss
  3. Establish alternatives to readjust to a new life after the loss
  4. Maintain a bond with the deceased loved one that allows for the development of their personal life project

What to Do in the Event of a Death in Costa Rica

In the unfortunate event of a death in Costa Rica, there are several steps to take to ensure that the necessary arrangements are made respectfully and efficiently:

Notify Authorities: Contact the local authorities or emergency services immediately. They will assist with necessary procedures and provide guidance on the next steps.

Contact a Doctor or Coroner: If the death occurs outside of a medical facility, a doctor or coroner will need to examine the deceased and issue a death certificate.

Notify Family and Friends: Inform family members, friends, and relevant parties about the death. Provide necessary support and assistance to those affected.

Contact the Embassy: If the deceased is a foreign national, contact their embassy or consulate for guidance and assistance with repatriation if needed.

Funeral Arrangements: Begin making arrangements for the funeral or cremation. Costa Rica offers various options for funeral services, including traditional burials and cremations.

Legal Procedures: Work with local authorities and legal representatives to complete any necessary paperwork, including obtaining a death certificate CCSS  and fulfilling any legal requirements.

Repatriation: If the deceased is to be transported back to their home country, coordinate with relevant authorities and organizations to arrange repatriation. This may involve obtaining necessary permits and working with airlines or other transportation services.

Support Services: Seek support from grief counselors, religious leaders, or support groups to help cope with the loss and navigate the practical aspects of dealing with a death.

It’s essential to remain patient and understanding throughout this process, as dealing with a death can be emotionally challenging. Additionally, seeking assistance from local professionals, such as funeral directors or legal advisors, can help ensure that everything is handled appropriately and in accordance with local customs and regulations.

Returning Home

The loss of a loved one is a challenging event for the family and friends of the deceased, especially when it occurs outside of their country. That’s why we have developed a repatriation program called “Returning Home,” transporting your loved one to any part of the world.

Cremation

Cremation Following the passing of a loved one, many individuals opt for the cremation process, yet few understand what it entails or how it is performed, or even how long this traditional practice has been in existence.

Cremation is perhaps one of the oldest religious practices, dating back approximately to 3000 BCE. While the Catholic Church only recently accepted this practice, more and more people choose to bid farewell to their loved ones through this means.

As the practice of cremation has increased, so too have the myths and legends surrounding it. Many of these beliefs stem from the power of imagination and a lack of understanding of a process that is increasingly being carried out with greater precision.
